“vibrant intimacy” - previewing a new book by John Amodeo “Dancing with Fire: A Mindful Way to Loving Relationships”

His love and passion for this area is the first thing that struck me, he mentioned to me that this book has been many years in the making, and this deep exploration comes through his words. You can really see the journey he has and is making.

I love this:

“Living with spiritual sensitivity means having a love affair with life. It is the juiciness of being alive—a vibrant intimacy with ourselves, others, and life itself.” 1

Something in me says YES! to this and it illustrates well the passion and aliveness of his exploration. His book seems to be about much more than relationships... more about our relationship to life itself.
Ever since I discovered the practice of Focusing, I have been pondering its relationship to what we call spiritual practice, especially Buddhist practice. Likewise I have been trying to use the skills of Focusing to help guide many areas of life - including friendships and intimate relationships. So I was excited to be given a sneak preview of a new book about exploring these areas by my friend and fellow Focuser John Amodeo.

He speaks of very similar struggles to my own journey - one of marrying the teachings of the Buddha and their insights into the nature of the ego and our shifting self with the understandings and modern psychology and therapy. A meeting between honouring ones own patterns and yearnings and the honouring the wisdom of the great spiritual traditions. Quite rightly, he wants to avoid the easy polarisation that can happen between these two worlds. And in particular he shows how the practice of Focusing has a central role in this meeting.

“A healthy spirituality includes accommodating our yearnings and emotions rather than pushing them away. By connecting intimately with what lives within ourselves, we begin to experience life’s bounty around us.” 1
He continues...
“These are exciting times. Scientific findings about what it means to be a healthy human being are mingling with Eastern views of what it means to be a spiritual being.” 1

I am with you! So thanks John for sharing your writing with me. Why not take a look?, it is available on Amazon uk
